45 Stories of Inspiration: The McKenna Family

From l to r: Emily, Michael, Mike, Matt, and Lori McKenna

The McKenna family have gone above and beyond to support the school that has changed their lives. Over the last decade, Mike and Lori McKenna, parents of NECC student Michael McKenna, have hosted “The Mike” Golf Invitational. This annual event brings together community members, from corporate donors to NECC staff, to help raise financial support for NECC. This year, because “The Mike” Golf Invitational was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the McKenna’s decided to embark on a new event to continue their tradition.

The result was “The Mike Walk” held August 27-30 on the Cape Cod Rail Trail. Over these four days, Mike and his other son, Matt, walked 100 miles, documenting their journey on social media along the way. Thanks to the support of private donors and corporate sponsors, “The Mike Walk” raised over $40,000 for NECC.

In addition to the various “Mike” events, Lori McKenna has been a regular member of NECC’s Falmouth Road Race team. The Race has been a family affair in the past as Matt, as well as Mike and Lori’s daughter, Emily have also participated on behalf of the Center.
