Staff Spotlight: Sophia Guidi

Sophia Guidi, a tutor in The New England Center for Children’s (NECC) Public School Services (PSS) Partner Program, has worked at NECC for two years. She was nominated for Staff Spotlight by multiple colleagues because of her flexibility (working in multiple PSS classrooms throughout the last year) and her willingness to always lend a hand. She “takes on new tasks and seeks out educational and behavioral projects. Her upbeat and caring attitude is respected and admired across PSS.” Another nominator shared that she “lights up any room she enters. Sophia is amazing with each and every student she works with. She takes the time to listen to them and understand them and really gets to know who they are.”

How long have you worked for NECC?

I have worked at NECC for two years. I started as a level 2 teacher, case manager, and backup core shift manager on Newcastle Road, and transitioned from the residential program to the Public School Services this past year.

What is your favorite part of your job?

There are so many parts of my job that I love. My favorite aspect is being able to collaborate with other teachers and get creative about student programming.

What would you like others to know about working in the Partner Program?

Working in the Partner Program has allowed me to teach other public school staff about everything we do at NECC! I love being able to share tips, tricks, and training with district staff.

Why did you choose a career in helping children with autism?

Working with children with autism was not my original plan, but after working as a paraprofessional in college, I absolutely fell in love with it. Celebrating students’ wins, both big and small, was so exciting and inspired me to continue working with this population.

Why NECC?

NECC was recommended to me by another level 2 teacher, so I decided to apply.  I love the support that NECC provides, and I have learned so much working on the floor.

Have you taken advantage of any of the grad programs or teacher training at NECC? If so, how has it affected your teaching style?

I am currently in the post-graduate applied behavior analysis (ABA) specialization through Western New England University (WNEU). It has affected my teaching style by influencing me to be more data-driven and research-based when creating new student programming.

What is something about you that your colleagues might be surprised to learn?

I love to read, especially thrillers and horror books.

Who is someone you look up to?

I look up to my mom. She inspires me to keep pushing even when things feel tough.

What is your life philosophy or motto you like to live by?

Be the change you want to see in the world.
