Staff Spotlight: Sherra Lantin
Sherra Lantin, a Rehabilitation Counselor on Ursla Drive, has been at NECC for about three years. She was nominated for Staff Spotlight by a colleague, “because she is very patient and empathetic. Sherra advocates for students and is the best Case Manager I have ever seen. Her attention to detail is extraordinary.”
How long have you worked for NECC?
I began my career at NECC in November 2023.
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is finding ways to make learning accessible, meaningful, and fun for every student. Partnering with families is also incredibly important to me, because together we can create the support each child needs to thrive.
Why did you choose a career in helping children with autism?
I believe I didn’t just choose to be a Special Education Teacher – I was meant to be one. I love helping students discover their strengths, build confidence, and believe in what they can achieve.
Why NECC?
NECC is a home where students with autism feel valued, supported, and genuinely cared for. The shared mission and vision of the NECC community are reflected in the way students, families, educators, and staff come together with compassion, respect, and a deep belief in every individual’s abilities.
Have you taken advantage of any of the grad programs or teacher training at NECC? If so, how has it affected your teaching style?
I’m looking forward to continuing my Master’s in Special Education at Simmons University soon! I’m excited to grow my knowledge and skills so I can better support my students and make an even greater impact in their lives.
What is something about you that your colleagues might be surprised to learn?
Something about me that my colleagues might be surprised to learn is that I love riding motorcycles and going on long road trips.
Who is someone you look up to?
While there are many individuals I admire, my husband and son are my absolute rocks. Having them by my side inspires me to achieve more and be my best self.
What is your life philosophy or motto you like to live by?
A philosophy I strive to live by is to always create an environment where the people around me feel safe, comfortable, and accepted. We never truly know what someone else may be going through, so I choose to lead with kindness, understanding, empathy, and compassion. I believe that even the smallest act of kindness can make a meaningful difference in someone’s day.
