Staff Spotlight: Rui Geng
Rui Geng, an IIP teacher, has worked at NECC since 2024. She was nominated for Staff Spotlight by a colleague “because she has worked incredibly hard since starting at NECC to develop her teaching skills and relationships with the students. She is always smiling and willing to help in any way that is needed!”
How long have you worked for NECC?
I have been working at NECC for one year in the Intensive Instruction Program.
Why did you choose a career in helping children with autism?
I chose this career because I love making a difference in children’s lives. Working with children with autism allows me to help them build important life skills and celebrate every small success along the way.
Why did you choose NECC?
NECC provides a wonderful opportunity to work directly with children while pursuing a master’s degree in ABA at the same time. It’s a perfect place to learn, grow, and apply what I learned in real-life settings.
Have you taken advantage of any of the grad programs or teacher training at NECC? If so, how has it affected your teaching style?
Yes, I’m currently in my second year at Western New England University’s graduate program. The program has deepened my understanding of behavior analysis and helped me become more thoughtful and evidence-based in my teaching.
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is seeing students make meaningful progress toward their IEP goals and how independent they can be at their vocational jobs. I also love working with the amazing teachers around me; they’re always supportive, positive, and inspiring.
What is something about you that your colleagues might be surprised to learn?
I love watching anime and TV series in my free time, and I also enjoy punch needle crafting.
Who is someone you look up to?
I really look up to my parents. They always support me unconditionally, and I wouldn’t be who I am today without their love and guidance.
What is your life philosophy or motto you like to live by?
“A contented mind is a perpetual feast.” It reminds me to appreciate what I have and stay positive.
