Staff Spotlight: Jocelyn Larrabee

Jocelyn Larrabee, a Level 2 Teacher on the Intensive Instruction Program (IIP), has worked at NECC for three years. She was nominated for Staff Spotlight by a colleague, “because she has been an invaluable asset to IIP, showing great leadership in both case management and shift leading – particularly during periods of short-staffing. Lately, Jocelyn has been picking up shifts on the Intensive Treatment Team (ITT) and has continued to grow by building strong student relationships and enhancing her professional skill set. Her proactive approach and constant willingness to assist the team with extra hours make her an essential part for both departments.”

How long have you worked for NECC?

I have been at NECC for almost three years.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I love seeing the progress my students make and watching them master skills they’ve been working on for a while.

Why did you choose a career in helping children with autism?

It’s something I always saw myself doing.

Have you taken advantage of any of the grad programs or teacher training at NECC? If so, how has it affected your teaching style?

I have not taken advantage of any of the onsite graduate programs yet, but I plan on enrolling in one of the programs this upcoming year.

What is something about you that your colleagues might be surprised to learn?

I am a military police Air Force veteran and a mom of 1.

What is your life philosophy or motto you like to live by?

I have two mottos that I live my life by: “Just keep swimming” and “You can do hard things.”
