Staff Spotlight: Emily Senick

Emily Senick, a Day Care Teacher at the Michael F. Downey Center for Child Development, has worked at NECC for seventeen years. She was nominated for Staff Spotlight by a colleague, “because Emily always finds ways to help and contribute to make sure each child’s unique needs and personalities are met with kindness and love!”

How long have you worked for NECC?

I have contributed to NECC for 17 years through volunteer work, seasonal summer employment, and casual labor roles during college before joining the organization full time in January 2017.

What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of my job is the connections I make with families and my students each year, walking into work each morning and seeing my students never fails to put a smile on my face.

Why NECC?

NECC is a special place that is near and dear to my heart, having grown up seeing the impact they make each year for their students and families. I can’timagine working anywhere else.

Have you taken advantage of any of the grad programs or teacher training at NECC? If so, how has it affected your teaching style?

I haven’t taken advantage of NECC-specific graduate programs, but I was always well supported during my time as an undergraduate by my supervisor, Erin Carmody.

What is something about you that your colleagues might be surprised to learn?

I love to read and try to read 3 new books a month!

Who is someone you look up to?

I look up to my mom!

What is your life philosophy or motto you like to live by?

“Focus on what you can, let go of the rest.”
