Staff Spotlight: Sona Shah

Sona Shah has served as the receptionist for The New England Center for Children (NECC) for nine months. She was nominated for Staff Spotlight by multiple colleagues because she is calm and composed, extremely hardworking and organized, and “the staff seem to adore her. She is the type of person we need to greet everyone who comes through the door! Sona always has a smile on her face and is helpful at the front desk. She has a kind heart and maintains the front desk in an exceptional manner.”

What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of my job is producing positive impressions, creating a welcoming environment, and building rapport with families and staff at NECC.

Why did you choose to work at NECC? Where did you work prior to coming to NECC?

I wanted to be a part of the diverse NECC community and work in such a positive environment! Prior to NECC, I worked at Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital as a unit secretary in their inpatient department, which was a rewarding experience.

What is something about you that your colleagues might be surprised to learn?

I enjoy spending time with my loved ones, attending music events, shopping, dining out, traveling, exploring quaint towns, and chillaxing at the beach, just to name a few. I was also a competitive horseback rider back in the day and won a few awards!

Who is someone you look up to?

I look up to people who are authentic and true to themselves.

What is your life philosophy or motto you like to live by?

“Embrace each day with joy, finding laughter in daily life, and cherishing relationships!”
