I love working with her.”
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is seeing how the students grow and progress over the years, as well as seeing them participate in community activities.
Why did you choose a career in helping children with autism?
Honestly, I’m not entirely sure how I chose this career! But once NECC provided me with the opportunity, it was difficult to turn it down. When our students’ caregivers show understanding and appreciation for what we do, it really makes me feel that our work here matters.
Why NECC?
NECC was my first job after graduate school. The learning opportunities it offers have been my greatest motivation.
Have you taken advantage of any of the grad programs or teacher training at NECC? If so, how has it affected your teaching style?
I’m currently enrolled in the Western New England University applied behavior analysis (ABA) specialization program. The coursework has given me a better understanding of the rationale behind clinical decision-making and is helping me prepare to become a BCBA.
What is something about you that your colleagues might be surprised to learn?
My colleagues might be surprised to learn that I box for fun. I also enjoy paint-by-number. I just need to finish one before the paints dry out.
Who is someone you look up to?
I look up to the staff that I work with on the team. They consistently advocate for the students and bring genuine passion to work each day, making me feel that the students are truly surrounded by love.
What is your life philosophy or motto you like to live by?
“We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.” It reminds me that It’s never the end of the world. There’s always something better ahead.
