Romina Grillo, a Rehabilitation Counselor on Salem End Road, has been at NECC for about two years. She was nominated for Staff Spotlight by a colleague, “because she puts her heart into every single thing she does. She is a passionate teacher, job coach, and case manager who truly gives her all every shift. The boys on Salem End Road are beyond lucky to have her!”

How long have you worked for NECC?

I joined NECC in December 2024, relocating from Argentina, and I have been part of the Salem End team since then.

What is your favorite part of your job?

One of the most meaningful parts of my work is the opportunity to make a lasting, positive impact on my students’ lives. It’sincredibly fulfilling to support their growth, encourage their independence, and help them discover their strengths. I feel incredibly lucky to be part of a dedicated, compassionate team committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. Working with colleagues who are so passionate about their work makes the work not only impactful but also deeply rewarding.

Why did you choose a career in helping children with autism?

I am deeply passionate about teaching and making a meaningful difference in my students’ lives. I find it incredibly rewarding to witness their growth, celebrate their accomplishments, and support them as they become more independent. Building strong, meaningful relationships with my students matters a lot to me. I believe that trust and connection help students feel valued, understood, and supported, so they can thrive. This is more than a job to me; it’s an opportunity to positively impact people’s lives.

NECC has given me the space to develop my skills and deepen my sense of purpose. Every day here reminds me why this work matters, and being part of a mission-driven community committed to meaningful change is incredibly rewarding.

Have you taken advantage of any of the grad programs or teacher training at NECC? If so, how has it affected your teaching style?

I’m looking forward to starting my Master’s at Simmons University to expand my knowledge and professional skills further and make an even stronger impact on my students’ lives.

What is something about you that your colleagues might be surprised to learn?

One thing that might surprise people is how deeply I love ballet. Dancing is my therapy; it helps me express emotions I can’t always articulate.

Who is someone you look up to?

I look up to my two grandmothers, both of whom were strong, independent women who taught me what it means to value myself, step into the world with confidence, and make a meaningful impact on other people’s lives.

What is your life philosophy or motto you like to live by? I hold onto Walt Disney’s quote, “If you can dream it, you can do it,” because growing up with Disney stories made imagination and hope feel powerful to me.
