Staff Spotlight: Cristina Quesada-Rodriguez
Cristina Quesada-Rodriguez, a Day Care Teacher at the Michael F. Downey Center for Child Development, first joined NECC in 2013. She was nominated for Staff Spotlight by a colleague “because Cristina is an amazing person who is always willing to assistwith any task in or out of the classroom. She is wonderful with the children, and they love having her in the classroom. She is kind to all staff and a valued member of our department!”
How long have you worked for NECC?
I have worked for NECC on and off since August 2013. I’ve explored other opportunities and pursued different ventures along the way, but I always found my way back to NECC.
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is watching the children learn and discover something new every day. Their curiosity never ceases to amaze me, and I love watching them grow, gain confidence, and develop their own little personalities.
Why did you choose a career in helping children with autism?
While I don’t directly work with children with autism, I love being able to support their families in my own way. Knowing that I can give parents peace of mind that their children are safe, cared for, and having fun while they focus on the important work they do is incredibly rewarding.
Why NECC?
There is a sense of community at NECC that has always stood out to me. I’ve been able to grow both personally and professionally here, and I really value the relationships I’ve built with the children, families, and my coworkers. Even after exploring other opportunities, NECC has always felt like a place I could come back to.
Have you taken advantage of any of the grad programs or teacher training at NECC? If so, how has it affected your teaching style?
I have not participated in any of the graduate programs, but I have taken part in some great training opportunities at NECC. They’ve given me valuable tools and new ideas that have helped me become a better teacher and better support the children in my care.
What is something about you that your colleagues might be surprised to learn?
I love to bake! In the future, I would love to have my own little farm stand where I could sell my baked goods.
Who is someone you look up to?
I look up to my dad. He has MS and is an immigrant from Costa Rica. No matter the hardships he has faced, he has never once given up. His strength and perseverance have always inspired me.
What is your life philosophy or motto you like to live by?
I believe that kindness is always the best choice. You never know what someone else may be going through.
