Staff Spotlight: Elizabeth Stroka

Elizabeth “Lizzy” Stroka, assistant creative director, has worked at The New England Center for Children (NECC) for three years. She was nominated for Staff Spotlight by a colleague for her “unwavering enthusiasm, exceptional work ethic, and dedication to excellence. Lizzy consistently brings positive energy to the workplace (some might even consider her a human exclamation point!), and she sets a high standard through her reliability, attention to detail, and willingness to go the extra mile. Her genuine commitment and can-do attitude make her an incredible asset not just to the Development Department, but also to NECC. And though Lizzy’s contributions may not always be in the spotlight, they are essential to our success as a team.”
How long have you worked for NECC?
I started working at NECC in June of 2022 as the graphic designer on the Development team, and I was excited to be promoted to assistant creative director this contract year!
What are your duties as the assistant creative director?
As assistant creative director, I bring together graphic design, photography, and brand development to keep our look and feel consistent and inspiring. I design everything from print and digital marketing pieces to appeals, event branding and collateral, and signage around the program, while also capturing photos that help share our story.
What is your favorite part of your job?
I love collaborating with different departments to bring ideas to life and create visuals that connect, celebrate, and shine a spotlight on our mission. The people here are so full of heart, and I’m grateful for the many friendships I’ve made at work!
Why did you choose to work at NECC?
I first connected with NECC through a freelancing opportunity. I’ve always been drawn to mission-driven organizations, and I was thrilled when the chance came to step into a full-time role!
What is something about you that your colleagues might be surprised to learn?
Before becoming a graphic designer, I considered pursuing interior design! My husband and I purchased our first home earlier this year, and it’s been such a joy filling it with color, character, and cozy elements.
Who is someone you look up to?
My parents, especially my dad, are my heroes. They’ve worked tirelessly to provide endless opportunities for my sister and me, as well as for the many others who’ve been blessed to know them. I’m forever grateful for the gift of their love.
What is your life philosophy or motto you like to live by?
I’ve always been inspired by Mother Teresa’s words on the power of love, kindness, and service – especially: “Let us always meet each other with a smile, for the smile is the beginning of love.”
