Staff Spotlight: Mary Grace Del Mundo

Mary Grace Del Mundo has been working as a rehabilitation counselor in The New England Center for Children’s (NECC) residential program for two years. She was nominated for Staff Spotlight by a colleague because “her contributions to our students’ education are truly commendable. She consistently demonstrates a willingness to assist all students, even at the expense of her own research time. Her positive attitude and resilience remain unwavering, even amidst the challenges posed by our students’ behavior. We are incredibly fortunate to have her as a member of our team.”
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is teaching and taking care of my School Street boys, being a case manager, as well as working with the BEST teammates and supervisors!
Why did you choose a career in helping children with autism?
I chose this career after having on-the-job training in college at a charitable institution that catered to students with special needs. Since then, my passion for helping children with autism has only grown.
Why NECC?
NECC is known for providing a rewarding career in the fields of applied behavior analysis (ABA) and special education, and they also happen to provide free graduate school programs. The experience and free education will surely shape me into a competent educator in these fields.
Have you taken advantage of any of the grad programs or teacher training at NECC? If so, how has it affected your teaching style?
I’m currently in my second year of the Simmons University master’s degree program. Because of the program, my teaching style has become more student-centered, more sensitive, and more adaptive to their needs and learning styles.
What is something about you that your colleagues might be surprised to learn?
Things my colleagues might not know are that I enjoy dancing, crocheting, hiking, swimming, traveling, and doing random arts and crafts. I also like to believe that I’m a productive procrastinator (lol).
Who is someone you look up to?
I look up to my Mama. She’s a woman of God, very resilient, compassionate, and loving. She inspires me, and I strive to be like her someday.
What is your life philosophy or motto you like to live by?
Let go and let God.
