Andrew Robinson, a Talent Acquisition Specialist, has worked at The New England Center for Children (NECC) since March 2023. He was nominated for Staff Spotlight by a colleague, “because he has gone above and beyond with stepping in while some members of the Talent Acquisition team have been out on maternity leave. During this time, he has taken on additional responsibilities, including supporting campus recruitment, coordinating new hires with hiring leaders, and consistently stepping in wherever needed.” 

How long have you worked for NECC?

I’ve been working at NECC for three years. I started in the Human Resources Department at NECC in March 2023.  

What is your favorite part of your job?

I play a small role in helping our students live a better life by choosing the people who will be working with them! 

Why did you choose a career in helping children with autism?

I chose this career because it means a lot to me to help people in general. 

Why NECC?

When I was first introduced to NECC, I was trying to find a place that was driven by a mission and a vision. I got the sense that this organization was all for that when I was going through the interview process. 

Are there any professional development programs you have done that are related to TA and have helped you grow in your role, like any Master’s Programs or special certifications?

Before starting this role, I received my Master’s in Public Administration. Although the Master’s is not specific to Talent Acquisition, I believe it has still helped me a lot in this role. 

Who is someone you look up to?

I look up to my dad. He is a role model to me in more ways than one. He showed me how to be not just a good father, but also how to be a good husband and a good person as well. 

What is something about you that your colleagues might be surprised to learn?

I have a background in carpentry. I went to a vocational high school and learned the trade of carpentry before college. I have worked on residential homes doing remodeling, and I have also installed and refinished hardwood floors. 

What is your life philosophy or motto you like to live by?

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass; it is about learning to dance in the rain.
