Despite rainy skies, spirits remained high on May 9, 2026, as a record-breaking 1,100 participants gathered at Neary Elementary School in Southborough for NECC’s 20th Annual 5K Walk/Run for Autism.

The milestone event became the most successful 5K in NECC history, raising more than $333,000 in support of the Annual Fund and the school’s mission to provide transformative education and care for children with autism.

The enthusiasm and dedication of the NECC community were on full display throughout the day. Even with steady rain, supporters continued to arrive, with an incredible 114 participants registering on the day of the event.

Teams of runners, walkers, families, students, alumni, staff, and supporters came together from across the region to celebrate community impact and advocacy. The event atmosphere was filled with energy, determination, and excitement—especially as NECC students proudly crossed the finish line and received their finisher medals.

A major contributor to the event’s historic success was the overwhelming support from corporate sponsors. Led by presenting sponsor BJ’s Wholesale Club, more than 50 companies and organizations contributed a remarkable $217,000 to underwrite the event and advance NECC’s mission.

The annual 5K has long been one of NECC’s signature community events, but this year’s milestone gathering reflected the extraordinary generosity and commitment of supporters who continue to champion individuals with autism and their families.
