Jennifer Correa, a level 2 teacher and backup core shift manager for The New England Center for Children’s (NECC) Westborough II residence, has worked at NECC for three years. She was nominated by a colleague for being “such an important member of the team. She is positive, welcoming to everyone, and has really stepped into her role as a leader of the team this year. Jen always has the team in mind when making decisions and does a great job organizing the day as she goes. She is dependable and goes the extra mile in her care for the students and teachers she works with. We are very lucky to have Jen as a member of the West 2 team!”

What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of my job is coming in every day and knowing that I am making a difference in someone’s life.

Why did you choose a career in helping children with autism?

I like to think that I was chosen to help children with autism and not so much that I chose this career, but that it chose me. I love what I do, and I truly believe that I was born to help the children that I work with.

Why NECC?

I believe NECC offers a lot of opportunities for staff when it comes to higher education, experience, and professional growth.

Have you taken advantage of any of the grad programs or teacher training at NECC? If so, how has it impacted your teaching/career?

I am currently enrolled in the special education master’s degree program with Simmons University. It has given me a better understanding of how to implement different strategies to improve the quality of life of the children I work with.

What is something about you that your colleagues might be surprised to learn?

I do daily affirmations, and I love writing and working out.

Who is someone you look up to?

I look up to my mother. She is a strong woman who has overcome many obstacles in her life. She is also caring, understanding, and an honest person.

What is your life philosophy or a motto you like to live by?

Live each day as if it was your last.
