Staff Spotlight: Jules Vig

Jules Vig has worked as a level 2 teacher on The New England Center for Children’s (NECC) Salem End Road residential team for three years. She was nominated by a colleague for Staff Spotlight because she “goes above and beyond advocating for students and ensuring safety for staff and students. She has dedicated her time to helping Salem End grow and has been a wonderful resource for staff.”
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of the job is seeing real progress and making a tangible impact.
Why did you choose a career in helping children with autism?
I chose this career because I wanted to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and their families.
Why NECC?
I was first introduced to NECC when I was attending a job fair at UCONN and was inspired by the values presented.
Have you taken advantage of any of the grad programs or teacher training at NECC? If so, how has it affected your teaching style?
I received my master’s degree in applied behavior analysis (ABA) from the University of Western Connecticut and recently completed my supervision hours at NECC. My experience has provided me with the confidence and drive to take the board exam to become a BCBA.
What is something about you that your colleagues might be surprised to learn?
Anyone who knows me knows that Celsius is my all-time favorite reinforcer at work and Salem End makes sure to keep supplies on deck to get us through long shifts, which is very appreciated.
Who is someone you look up to?
I look up to my specialist, Sarah Walding, because of her professionalism and openness to collaboration. I really appreciate how much she prioritizes both client progress and staff development. She has really helped me grow a lot in my role.
What is your life philosophy or motto you like to live?
Guided by data, driven by compassion.
