Staff Spotlight: Debbie Ko
Debbie Ko, a Rehabilitation Counselor on Francine Road, has worked at The New England Center for Children (NECC) for two and a half years. She was nominated for Staff Spotlight by a colleague, “because Debbie is the heart and soul of the Francine team! She is everyone’s best friend and brings the best energy into every room she walks into! While she is on shift, you can be confident that our students will have safe, productive, and fun-filled hours. She is an excellent role model and the first one to volunteer to take on a challenging task, an overtime shift, or an additional responsibility. Debbie keeps every shift running smoothly and brings a smile to students and staff each day!”
How long have you worked for NECC?
I’ve been working at NECC since April 2023.
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of this job is seeing my students learn and master new skills, such as vocational skills or self-help skills.
Why did you choose a career in helping children with autism?
I knew I wanted to work in psychology/special education related fields since college, and NECC happened to be the top result that popped up when I was looking for job opportunities in the New England area.
Why NECC?
I love how NECC has not only various job opportunities and vocational skills training for the students but also lots of fun activities, like the annual 5K Walk/Run for Autism, the summer dance party, Field Day, and the Halloween party.
What is your life philosophy or motto you like to live by?
My life philosophy is “the only way to do great work is to love what you do,” by Steve Jobs.
