At NECC we strive to prepare every child we serve for their eventual integration into their local school system, back into their home or to a less restrictive program. Through our Transition Program we assist in making this life change by ensuring a sustained level of support for the child. During transition, a NECC teacher accompanies the child back to their local school.
The Integration Process
Through this process the child is slowly reintroduced into the public school with the support of the NECC teacher. This provides the consistency needed to aid in generalization and maintenance of the skills the child has gained at NECC to new settings and people. NECC teachers provide support in the local school as long as the team determines that it is necessary. As integration progresses and the NECC teacher is faded out, NECC often provides consultation services to the child’s local school classroom. In some cases the NECC teacher works with the child in his/her home or in a teaching family model.
