Programs & Services > Programs > Day School Intensive Classroom

This component of the Day School serves children ages 5 to 12, providing intensive one-to-one instruction at our central school building. In session year-round from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily, the Intensive Classroom can provide a continuum of services to those children who have aged out of the NECC preschool and would benefit from additional intensive services. With the ultimate goal still that of inclusion, parents, teachers, and school systems work towards integrating the child with their local district whenever possible.
Curriculum and Approach
Communication, pre-academic, social, play and self-help skills are the main focus of the intensive training. The NECC curriculum follows a developmental progression and is taught using a combination of discrete trials and natural learning opportunities.
Parental Involvement
The Intensive Classroom program includes 2 hours of in-home parent training each week to promote generalization of the skills that have been acquired at school. Additionally, once per month the program supervisor, primary teacher and family members meet for a clinic. Clinic time is designed to discuss each child’s progress, review program modifications and discuss recommendations for the future.
