Autism affects every aspect of every
family member’s life. NECC offers
support, education, training and guidance
for all members of our students' families.
We help families develop understanding,
coping skills, and the ability to assist
their children as they progress through
various levels of educational, behavioral
and clinical programs.
The NECC Parent Organization represents
parents from all NECC programs. Parents
give feedback and advise NECC about
policy, communicate with administrators
in an open dialogue about the program,
and assist NECC to achieve its mission
through fundraising and support.

| Skills need
to be practiced with different
people and in a variety
of settings to promote generalization
and maintenance of learned
behaviors. Parents can learn
about the principles of
ABA and how to apply those
principles with their child
at home in parent training
courses. In-home observation
and training occurs weekly
for students in our early
childhood and intensive
day programs, and is necessary
for families who are experiencing
problems with their child
at home. |

|
| Through our
Parent Seminar Series, parents
hear from experts in the
field on topics relevant
to the treatment of autism.
The unique needs of siblings
of a child with disabilities
are addressed in sibling
groups. Guided by master's-level
graduate student interns
at NECC, siblings meet for
activities, discussions
and share experiences. Other
outreach activities include
our Annual Parents' Night,
Summer Residence Picnics
and Family Day. Parent support
groups (for example for
families of new students)
and outreach groups connecting
NECC with families who live
some distance from the school,
are also offered for our
families. |
