The New
England Center For Children Receives
Grant From Autism Speaks
Autism Speaks has awarded The New
England Center for Children in Southborough,
Massachusetts a grant to fund the
implementation of the Autism Curriculum
Encyclopedia (ACE). The ACE is a
curriculum database tool that has
been created at NECC specifically
for educating children with autism.
The ACE will provide a central location
for all teaching protocols used
at NECC. This will allow teachers
and administrators easy access to
standardized programs, which can
be individualized to meet the specific
needs of their students. The ultimate
goal of this project is to post
the ACE on the Internet to share
with educators around the world.
A U.S. Department of Education
National Award Winner, The New England
Center for Children (NECC) is a
residential and day school serving
individuals diagnosed with autism
and related disabilities. NECC is
a non-profit, publicly funded school
serving 230 students who come to
us from throughout the United States
and several foreign countries. Since
its founding in 1975, The New England
Center for Children has emerged
as an international leader on three
closely-related fronts: the effective
education of children with autism,
applied educational research, and
teacher training.
Autism Speaks is committed to raising
public awareness about autism and
its effects on individuals, families,
and society, and to giving hope
to all who deal with the hardships
of this disorder. Founded by Bob
and Suzanne Wright, the group seeks
to raise funds to facilitate effective
treatment and research on autism.
It is dedicated to uncovering the
biology of autism and developing
effective biomedical treatments
through research funding as well
as to supporting educational programs
for people with autism.
