Minutes from August 14, 2006


Present: Marcia Grenier, Vice-President; Ann Edwards, Alain Grenier, Justin Grenier, Rich Martin, Angela Masiello, Bob Ruzzo, Colleen Schmidlen, Peggy Thompson

Minutes of the June meeting were not available for approval.

Treasurer ’s Report: Peggy Thompson submitted the Treasurer ’ s report for Annette Lazili. It was approved.

Committee Update:

> Family Day: Because of a family crisis, Carol Rosenfield will not be able to run the event. Marcia has offered to do it. The decision was made to continue with the traditional plan. The event is scheduled for September 17 th .

> Fundraising Committee: Angela reported that a mailing about the Night of Music had already been done. A letter signed by Jonathan, Angela, and Susan Ruzzo was due to be mailed out in September. The tickets will be the same price as two years ago.

> Legislative Committee: Marcia passed out photocopies of articles published in The Arc of Massachusetts ’ Advocate. Peggy informed us that information on the new IDEA regulations were available on the website of the U.S. Dept. of Education: www.ed.gov/policy/speced.

> Membership Committee: The possibility of pairing speakers with meetings was discussed.

> Appreciation Committee: We were informed about the Welcome Basket distribution planned for the first week of October. The gift bags will be prepared at Trader Joe ’ s. People will be needed to pick up the baskets and deliver them at NECC. Rich announced that each winner of a research poster award will receive $50.00. There will be four awards.

> Member Items: Peggy informed us about a conference organized by the Mass. Families Organized for Change: Building a Home for Adults (November 4 th ). Angela talked about scheduling a volunteer day in the day school for October. Peggy asked about the possibility of installing dehumidifiers in the residences.

The next meeting is scheduled to be held on September 11th.
