Minutes from October 16, 2006

Present:
Wandajune Bishop-Towle, Dan Clinton, Carolyn Gombosi, Jeannette Gould, Alain Grenier, Marcia Grenier, Jill Mark, Rich Martin, Angela Masiello, Bob Ruzzo, Susan Sleight, Tracy Sweeney, Peg Thompson, Jonathan Towle

Prior to the business meeting:
APE instructor Phil Leonard gave a most informative and enjoyable presentation on the Special Olympics. Students from NECC participate in state-wide events in track and field, basketball, and soccer. Participation is open to all students.

Joe Ziska previewed the new Holiday card (cute!). Inserts for honor/memorial gifts are available at no extra cost.

Meeting convened at 7:45:
The meeting began with elections.
The following PO members were elected to office:

  • President: Jonathan Towle
  • Vice President: Bob Ruzzo
  • Treasurer: Annette Lasli
  • Secretary: Wandajune Bishop-Towle
The minutes of the 9/11/06 meeting were approved.

Treasurer's Report (Annette Lasli in absentia):
On 10/4/06 208 welcome baskets were purchased, leaving $9,264.93 of our $12K budget remaining. The fiscal year ends 6/30.

Activities Committee Report (Marcia Grenier):
Family Day was a success, despite the Moonwalk threatening to deflate.

Staff Appreciation Report (Angela Masiello):
The 208 welcome baskets from Trader Joe's were well recieved by staff. The nect event will be distribution of holiday chocolates.

Fundraising Report (?):
The Night of Music will start at an earlier time this year, 6:00 pm, to give folks more time to participate in the silent auction. Dan Ray from NBC will be the master of ceremonies. Our own Vincent Strully and also Dr. Janice Weare will also be speakers. Tickets can be purchased from Jennifer Eames.

Membership Report (Tracy Sweeney):
A new member reception is planned for the January meeting.

Legislative Committee Report (Marcia Grenier):
Marcia attended an ARCMASS meeting at which there was discussion of legislative priorities for the coming year. Targets include enacting legislation against aversives (mostly aimed at the Judge Rottenberg Center) and legislation to access criminal records that workers with DD individuals may have in states other than MA.

Policy Review (Rich Martin):
Policy for home visits and visits at the residences are being reviewed for greater clarity and consistency from residence to residence. The new guidelines are forthcoming.
