Appreciation
The Welcoming Baskets were very well
received. Trader Joe’s did a
great job with the 51 baskets (vs.
43 last year) at $21 per (vs. $25
last year). Our holiday gift this
year will likely be chocolate, delivered
in early December.
Legislative
Marcia attended an ARCMASS meeting
recently. Their website has a legislative
agenda, sample letters, and an email
list for alerts. Current items: Turning
22 has been level funded
for the past 3 years. It will be discussed
at the governor’s budget hearing
11/04/05. Now is the time to contact
legislators and ask for their support
for a $10.5M budget for Turning 22.
Act to Ensure Humane Treatment
of the Disabled is before
the Joint Committee on Children and
Families. The act is aimed largely
at the Judge Rotenberg Center, which
makes extensive use of aversives that
have caused harm to students. Act
to Require National Background Checks
will prevent sex offenders from working
for the DMR in a different state than
the one in which they offended. ARCMASS
website: www.arcmass.org
Member Items: Tracy
got gift certificates from the PO
as thank you’s for Ken Savage
(Family Day) and Ellen Perlman (for
assisting PO). The idea of PO hosting
a January coffee event (or events
at different times of day) for new
families was discussed and needs follow
up.
