Minutes from September 10, 2007

Present:
Bob Ruzzo, Joe Kelley, Ann Kelley, Alain Grenier, Marcia Grenier, Andrew Budson, Rich Martin, Jeannette Gould, Ellen Doherty, Tere Dunne, Mike Keohane, Srinivas Kotamreddy, Ann Edwards, Angela Masiello, Peg Thompson, Melissa Cannistraro

Meeting Agenda:
Meeting convened at 7:05pm.

The minutes of the August 13, 2007 meeting were approved.

Officers Elected: Officers were elected for the coming year. In unanimous votes, Bob Ruzzo was elected President and Parent-in-Chief, Joe Kelley was elected Vice President, Annette Lazili was re-elected Treasurer, and Andrew Budson was elected secretary. The president promised to make innovative changes to the parents committee.

New Sub-Committees: The newly elected president then briefly discussed the different committees such as activities and fundraising, and urged parents to sign up for these committees.

Treasurer's Report (Annette Lazili):
Annette Lazili was unable to attend the meeting but she sent in her report dated September 10, 2007. This showed a starting balance of $611.15 on 6/30/97, $12,000 deposited on 8/15/07, and expenses for Buffet Way on 8/16/07 and 8/21/07 of $560.11 and $875.84, leaving a new balance of $11,735.31.

Sub-committee reports:

Activities Committee (Marcia Grenier):
Marcia reported on the successful family day held on September 9, 2007. 29 families (109 people) attended the event, ate ice cream, bounced on the moonwalk, and ran around on the playground.

Staff Appreciation Committee (Ellen Doherty):
Ellen reported that welcome baskets were being ordered from Trader Joes for each of the houses, to be delivered on September 26, 2007.

Fundraising Committee (Angela Masiello):
The annual Night of Music will be held in the Seaport Hotel in Boston on October 26, 2007. It was reported that one company, Savings Bank Life Insurance of Massachusetts (SBLI), purchased the $25,000 table.

Membership Committee:
Ann Kelley is helping to organize the Parents' Organization greeters for the Annual Parents' Night on November 7, 2007. Several ideas were discussed as to how to make this night most useful for new parents. The new pool is expected to be a central focus.

Legislative Committee:
There was no report. Andrew Budson volunteered to help with the legislative reports.

Participant Items:

Terry suggested that another informal parents' social event be organized.

All agreed that more social events may help to bring in additional parents to the Parents' Organization.

The present expressed his desire to have more parent-run fundraising activities. Rich Martin suggested the parents work to support NECC fundraising efforts.

Jeannette Gould reported that on Thursday November 29, 2007 at both 9:15 AM and 6:30 PM there would be an information group conducted by the Speech and Language Department.

Behavioral management workshops will be planned for the spring.

Tere commented that there were concerns of student safety in the pick-up and drop off of students (particularly the latter) because there were not enough individuals directing vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Next meeting:
Next meeting will be held on October 15, 2007. Kristen Sidman, Director of Occupational Therapy, will present information about the pool.
