Northeastern University and The New
England Center for Children collaborate
to offer a Master of Science Degree
in Applied Behavior Analysis (MABA).
The MABA program is a three-year,
full-time program. The program is
an academically rigorous one that
seeks to train a small number of students
to become leaders in the field of
behavior analysis. The program emphasizes
the scientist/practitioner model,
with a heavy emphasis on practical
experience and faculty mentoring.
This program provides comprehensive
in-service training on how to apply
learning theory to the education and
treatment of individuals with developmental
disabilities. Students participate
in a variety of educational experiences
including seminars, intervention projects
and practicum assignments under the
close supervision of internationally
recognized behavior analysts.
The Behavior Analyst Certification Board,
Inc. has approved the MABA Program course
sequence as meeting the coursework requirements
for eligibility to take the Board Certified
Behavior Analyst examination. Applicants
must meet additional requirements to
qualify.
MABA Program Goals
- Provide students with a knowledge base in both applied behavior analysis and developmental disabilities, particularly in the education and treatment of individuals with challenging behaviors.
- Develop and enhance the students' professional skills so that they may contribute to the fields of applied behavior analysis and developmental disabilities through publication and presentation.
- Provide students with skills to bridge the gap between basic and applied research, and between research and practice.
Program
Requirements
- 12 semester-length seminars
- Minimum of 20 hours per week of supervised clinical practice
- Three 1 year research placements (4-6 hours per week)
- Verbal Proficiency Laboratory
- Five clinical intervention projects
- Staff training project
- Oral thesis defense
- Written thesis
Most written requirements receive
review by two faculty members, and
a committee of three faculty members
reviews the written thesis.
