On Friday, June 20, 2008, The New England Center for Children (NECC®) formally opened the “Michael S. Dukakis Aquatic Center,” the first building in Massachusetts to be named after the former Governor, with a Dedication Ceremony marking the occasion.

Marathon Monday, April 21, was a little warm for most runners liking, but that did not stop Team NECC – all members completed the Boston Marathon®! One team member, Leon Litchfield, even qualified for next year’s marathon. Congratulations Team NECC!

NECC 2nd Annual 5k Walk/Run for Autism

The New England Center for Children’s 2nd Annual 5K Walk/Run for Autism sponsored by SBLI held on Saturday, May 10, 2008 was a huge success! Nearly 900 people were registered to walk or run to raise awareness of autism and raised more than $150,000 for our Annual Fund. Many people enjoyed this fun event, including students, staff, parents and other friends of NECC.

2007 Nolin 2nd Annual Golf for Autism

On Tuesday, August 14, 2007 Meghan and Kevin Nolin hosted their 2nd Annual Golf for Autism golf tournament to benefit The New England Center for Children (NECC®) at Cyprian Keyes Golf Club in Boylston, MA. The tournament was again a Florida scramble format and included a raffle, silent auction and live auction. About 50 golfers participated in the tournament and over $15,000 was raised for NECC’s Annual Fund.

NECC’s 1st Annual 5K Walk/Run For Autism a Big Success!

Our first 5K Walk/Run event was a huge success! Held on May 12, 2007, nearly 800 participants registered to either walk or run the 5K route through the town of Southborough, Massachusetts, where The New England Center for Children is located. We raised more than $140,000, the net proceeds of which will support the Capital Campaign for the Therapeutic Aquatic Center.

NECC Breaks Ground on Therapeutic Aquatic Center

Cold and rainy weather didn’t dampen the energy surrounding NECC’s Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Therapeutic Aquatic Center held on April 4, 2007. More than 100 parents, students, donors, and staff attended the celebration that officially commenced construction of the long awaited pool for our students.

Parents’ Organization Sponsors Holiday Staff Appreciation

On December 13 volunteers from NECC’s Parents’ Organization gathered at the school to distribute baskets of holiday season chocolates. Baskets were delivered throughout the school and at residences with notes attached to recognize the hard work of all staff including teachers, special services and support staff, and administrators.

On Saturday, November 4, 2006, the Parents Organization of The New England Center for Children (NECC) hosted its Fifth Annual "A Night of Music" event at historic Mechanics Hall in Worcester, Massachusetts. This exciting event included a silent auction, live auction, slideshow, dinner, and, of course, music!

CT golf tournament raises money for NECC

The law firm of Tobin, Carberry, O’Malley, Riley & Selinger, P.C. (TCORS) of New London, Connecticut held its Eleventh Annual TCORS Golf Outing at Pequot Golf Course in Stonington, CT on Monday, October 16, 2006 and again included The New England Center for Children (NECC) as one of the beneficiaries of the event. Glenn Carberry, NECC parent, helped organize the event and was instrumental in making sure NECC was selected as a recipient of proceeds of this event. Tee off was at 9:30 a.m. and lunch followed, where awards were presented and raffle prizes drawn. Cathy Welch, NECC’s Director of Admissions, spoke briefly about the school and thanked everyone for their generosity. Through the TCORS golf tournament, $2,500 was raised for NECC’s Annual Fund. Thank you again to all who worked so hard to include The New England Center for Children in this great event!

On Wednesday, September 20, 2006 Lawyers Weekly newspaper held their annual networking cocktail reception to salute Up & Coming Lawyers at the Omni Parker House in Boston. David Yas, the editor-in-chief of the publication and also a NECC parent, selected The New England Center for Children (NECC) as the beneficiary of the proceeds of the event. David highlighted NECC at the event and honored our Executive Director, Vincent Strully, Jr.

Allen & Major Invitational Golf Tournament

The 8th Annual Allen & Major Invitational Golf Tournament was held September 18, 2006 at the Pocasset Golf Club in Bourne, MA. The employer of a former student’s parent, Allen & Major Associates donates all funds raised during this tournament by the way of raffles, auctions or contributions to The New England Center for Children.

On Sunday, August 13, 2006, The New England Center for Children (NECC) had the opportunity to have runners participate in the 34th running of the Falmouth Road Race, held annually in Falmouth, MA. This year’s participants were required to raise pledges to qualify for their entry numbers. We are proud to announce that our runners raised close to $10,000 for NECC’s Annual Fund! Thank you to runners Bryan Blair, Jared Cavagnuolo, Jen Cheron, Stephanie Crawford, Gail Fanselow, Jennifer Kebler, Faith Kimball, Karen Klerman, Amy Lipcon, Meghan Locke and Maureen Ricotta for all their hard work.

On Friday, July 28, 2006, John DuPre of Hamilton, Brook, Smith & Reynolds, P.C. (HBSR) invited The New England Center for Children (NECC) to their offices in Concord, MA to present to employees at an ice cream social they hosted. Frank Ciccone of NECC’s Consulting Department spoke to the group of about fifty about autism and NECC’s programs and thanked them for attending. HBSR made the generous offer to match all donations made after the event. Through their generosity, over $4,000 was raised for NECC’s Annual Fund!

Jean Leone, parent of NECC student Matthew Leone, sold tickets to her local AA-Affiliate baseball team, the Connecticut Defenders of Norwich, CT, and as a result received a $1,400 donation to The New England Center for Children. Parent Hosts Fundraising Event for NECC

On Saturday, June 10th, Rexh and Shpresa Xhakli opened their home to their friends, family and neighbors to raise money for NECC’s Capital Campaign. This year marked the fourth year that Mr. & Mrs. Xhakli hosted an event for NECC, this being the first year they hosted the event at their home. The evening included food, music, dancing and a silent auction.

NECC Staff participate in Flutie 5K

On Sunday, May 21, over 40 NECC staff participated in the Flutie 5K Road Race held at Marino Lookout Farm in Natick, MA. This race benefits the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism and draws about 1,100 runners annually. It was a beautiful day and our runners stood out from the crowd wearing NECC running shirts. Stephanie Crawford, a teacher at NECC, came in second place in the women’s division!

Golf Tournament sponsored by Microsoft raises money for NECC

Cherryl Pressley, sister of NECC consumer Scott Lawson and daughter of NECC Board Member Warren Lawson, held her second annual charity Golf Tournament at the beautiful Chateau Elan in Braselton, Georgia, on Friday, May 5, 2006. The Microsoft Corporation, where Cherryl is employed as Southeast Sales Manager, again generously supported the event by matching the sponsorships from twelve other companies who donated to the tournament. Craig McCollum, from Microsoft’s corporate headquarters in Redmond, Washington, welcomed the golfers and Scott Lawson served as Grand Marshall of the event and delivered a great kick-off speech. Additionally, Bill Forsyth, GM of Microsoft Southeast spoke to the crowd. 108 golfers participated in the successful tournament which raised more than $14,000 for NECC!

NECC 30th Anniversary Gala a Success!

On Friday, November 18, The New England Center for Children (NECC) celebrated our 30th Anniversary with a Gala at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. The Gala raised $300,000, the largest single fundraising event in NECC’s history. Over 500 corporate sponsors, parents, staff and friends of NECC gathered to celebrate this milestone event for NECC.
