Transition Planning for Adult Placement
When: Wednesday, January 16, 2008
Time: 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
This training will review transition planning for adult placement, which can start as early as age 16. Types of placements and how they are determined will be discussed. Critical IEP objectives necessary to facilitate a successful transition to adult placement will be identified. Legal, medical and financial considerations as they relate to transition planning will be reviewed.

Trends in Autism Research: What the Data Do and Do Not Tell Us

This presentation will cover several areas of autism research in which new results have recently been published. Effective treatment and critical treatment components for optimal outcome, autism prevalence, causes and the course of the disorder are among the topics that will be covered.

De-escalation Techniques and Pro-active Strategies for managing Challenging Behavior Effectively

This interactive training examines the causes of challenging behavior and teaches a variety of de-escalation and prevention strategies. Common assessment techniques are reviewed and function-based prevention strategies are presented. Real-live situations will be discussed, and participants are encouraged to participate with their own examples and questions.

Life Beyond Chicken Nuggets: Feeding Problems and Feeding Solutions

Feeding problems are common among children diagnosed with autism and developmental disabilities. The feeding difficulties of these children potentially stem from and are maintained by numerous biological and environmental factors. This presentation will provide an overview of causes, assessment and treatment of common feeding difficulties encountered in children with autism.

Toilet Training Strategies for Young Children with Autism
When: Wednesday, June 18, 2008
Time: 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Toilet training can often be a challenging process when working with a child with autism. This training provides an overview of the steps involved in toileting training children ages 3 - 6. Included is a review of pre-requisite skills, how to arrange the environment and plan a training schedule, and important components of the teaching process. A variety of "helpful hints" will be presented and participants are encouraged to share strategies.
