Over the past seven years, NECC has successfully developed a “model classroom” program that serves to establish an ABA classroom in school systems in individual communities. Our model classroom meets standards recommended in clinical practice guidelines and provides the same intensive, individualized instruction that each child would receive in a high-quality private school setting. This program, which was originally based in a preschool within the Ashburnham-Westminster (MA) School District, is specifically designed to meet the social and educational needs of children with autism. It utilizes the instructional curriculum that has been developed at NECC over the past three decades.
In addition to bringing our education model to the schools involved, NECC provides a Board Certified Behavior Analyst to supervise the classroom as well as a full-time master's-level certified teacher with experience working with children with autism. The school district, in turn, provides the classroom space, one-to-one instructional aides, and the students. If preferred, NECC will provide aides as well. In this model, both the classroom supervisor and lead teacher work closely with public school administrators, general education teachers, speech and OT specialists, as well as paraprofessionals in order to serve children with autism within their public school systems .
Each year we continue to add new Partner Program Classrooms within Massachusetts community schools. NECC currently supervises a total of twelve partner classrooms, located within nine different Massachusetts public school districts, and has served a total of 65 students from preschool through 6th grade. Of these students, 87% of those who have graduated from a Partner Program Classroom have remained in district and are currently served by their public schools. |
