Consulting in Brazil
Recently, five of our clinicians, Meca Andrade, Beth Bellone, Paula Braga-Kenyon,
Bill Holcomb, and Shawn Kenyon, traveled to Sao Paulo, Brazil to provide consulting
services to the AMA school. Over 50 AMA staff received trainings in Augmentative
Communication, Observing and recording behavior, Behavioral Assessments, and Early
Intervention Services. Additionally, 25 staff received CALM-P training. The AMA
school is one of the only schools in Sao Paulo providing services to children with autism.
Our staff also presented at the 1st International Congress of the Service of Psychiatry
of Childhood and Adolescence Psychiatry Institute of the Clinical Hospital Medical School
of the University of São Paulo on March 22-24. At this conference NECC staff presented:
- 4 hour workshop on Decreasing Challenging Behavior and Students in Crisis
(Shawn Kenyon and Paula Braga-Kenyon)
- 4 hour workshop on Early Intervention and Home-based service delivery (Bill Holcomb)
- 4 hour workshop on the Consultative Service Delivery Model and Multidisciplinary
teams (Beth Bellone and Meca Andrade)
- 1.5 hour round table presentation on speech acquisition and AAC in children with
autism (Beth Bellone plus other AMA invited presenters)
