2006 Speaker Series: Kitty Dukakis

NECC Speaker Series Event featuring Kitty Dukakis takes place December 13, 2006

On Wednesday, December 13, 2006, The New England Center for Children (NECC®) hosted our first "Speaker Series" event at the Harvard Club in Boston and featured Kitty Dukakis, a member of NECC's Capital Campaign Steering Committee and wife of former Governor Michael Dukakis, who is the chair of our Steering Committee. Kitty spoke about exploring depression treatments and her recent book, "Shock: The Healing Power of Electroconvulsive Therapy", co-written by Larry Tye.

Depression and its treatments are important health issues in our society. By sharing her personal story Kitty has helped raise awareness about ECT as an acceptable and effective treatment for depression. We admire Kitty's passion and ability to bring these topics to the forefront, thus changing the way people think and talk about mental health concerns.

We are grateful to have had this opportunity for Kitty to share her experience with our staff, friends, and donors and for her involvement with NECC!
