2006 McGovern NECC Tour

On Friday, June 2, 2006 Congressman James McGovern and former Senator George McGovern visited The New England Center for Children.

Congressman James McGovern has represented the third congressional district in Massachusetts since 1997. McGovern is the second ranking Democrat on the House Rules Committee as well as a Regional Whip for the New England Delegation. Prior to his election to Congress, McGovern was a senior aide to the late Congressman John Joseph Moakley.

George McGovern was a United States Senator from 1962 through 1980 representing the state of South Dakota. An outspoken critic of the war in Vietnam, Senator McGovern was nominated for President by the Democratic Party in 1972. In addition to his years in the Senate, McGovern served in World War II, was a special delegate to the United Nations under Presidents Ford, Carter and Clinton and a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Currently, George McGovern is a prolific author and lectures at colleges and universities around the world.

During their visit to the New England Center for Children, Congressman McGovern and Senator McGovern had the opportunity to tour the school, speak with students, parents, staff and friends of NECC and even took the time to answer questions asked by NECC's Student Council.
